    Frequently asked questions

    What is a Semiconductor?

Semiconductor is a material that have an electrical conductivity between a conductor (generally metals) and an insulator (such as most ceramics). It is a crucial component in modern electronics, and forms the foundation for various semiconductor devices. Semiconductors are used in numerous applications, including transistors, diodes, integrated circuits (ICs), solar cells, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

What are the main types of semiconductor?

Semiconductors are made extrinsic by introducing impurities through a process called doping. Doping involves intentionally adding specific atoms of other elements to the semiconductor crystal lattice. Depending on the type of impurity introduced, the resulting semiconductor can be either N-type or P-type.

    N-type semiconductor

Doping with elements like phosphorus or arsenic introduces extra electrons (negative charge carriers) into the crystal, increasing its conductivity.

    P-type semiconductor

Doping with elements like boron or gallium creates “holes” in the crystal lattice, which can accept electrons (positive charge carriers) and enhance the material’s conductivity.

    What is Bangalore famous for?

Bangalore is called the “Silicon Valley of India” due to its prominent role in India’s information technology (IT) industry. It houses numerous IT companies, multinational corporations, and startup ventures, making it a significant centre for technology and innovation.
Bangalore is also a house for leading semiconductor companies operating in India.
